Summer 2026 Painting Outside with Matt Lively

Hi!!!!  The following is the information about the Summer 2026 session of Painting Outside with Matt Lively.  

The Summer session will be 8 sessions.  

We are a group of folks painting outside.  I am one of the folks responsible for organizing the outings and will be available to answer any technical questions any participants may have during our outings. I will meet with everyone during our outings and make myself available via other means outside of our group times.  

 In all meetings, each participant is responsible for their own food, safety, and well-being.  This is a Summer session and the weather is likely to be HOT. The Summer session has an EARLIER START TIME to try to beat the heat.   Any weather-related make-ups will be on Fridays after the session ends.  

The group will be a limited number of participants so I can talk with everyone.   

At 8:30am before most sessions, there will be a short demo.  Participation is voluntary. 

 The goal of this group is to get better at painting and create a reason to go and do it.  Since I love to paint and teach, I invite you to join me outside so that we can all get better at painting.  The repetition of the outings is key in learning.  Painting outside allows for the opportunity to work quickly, try new techniques and materials and all without the burden of deep thought that is suffered in the studio.  We go outside and paint there.  

In order to make this project sustainable, ongoing, and able to grow to include more interesting locations, I will be requiring a registration fee from each participant.  The registration fee includes organization, instruction when needed, critique when asked, locations, communication (email and text), water, and an exhibition at Artspace Gallery in July 2026. I will provide all of the particulars about the show via email.  

We will have guest artists during some of our outings for you to learn from as well! 

The Summer 2026 Session will be $200 (plus VA tax) total registration fee if paid during the early registration period .  ($250 after June 12th)

Early registration for the Summer 2026 session of Painting Outside with Matt Lively officially begins, Saturday June 6th at 8am via my website (mattlivelystore.com).  The payment on my site works with PayPal and credit cards (via Stripe).  In the event that you need to pay a different way, let me know as soon as you can.  I can do Venmo and other means.  

The registration fee includes all.   (Let me know if you would like a fancy branded POWML shirt! )

DATES: The Summer 2026 group will meet Fridays  from 9am - 12pm starting June 26th and continuing until August 14th  (8 meetings) 

Each painter will provide for their own painting needs, creature comforts, bug spray and snacks if needed.  I will provide drinking water. 

LOCATIONS: Locations are subject to change but you will be notified via email in a timely manner before the session starts and each subsequent week.  I will send a weekly email on Sundays to detail the next location.  Typically we stay around Richmond but occasionally travel outside of the area.  

*Rain/makeup days : In the event of a rainout, we will tack on additional Fridays corresponding to the number of rainouts.  If it is raining or the weather is forecasted to be dicey,  I will send an early morning email with that days status.  

Suggestion:  what you paint that day is what you paint.  Resist addressing today’s painting again until after our last meeting.  Suffering this suggestion will pay off.
